What does Cognia Accreditation mean for my child?

It means that an independent, internationally recognized accreditation body has reviewed Hokku Academy’s curriculum, instruction, leadership, and student outcomes — and confirmed that our school meets rigorous standards of educational quality. Cognia accreditation is renewed on an ongoing basis, which means we are continuously held accountable for the quality of your child’s education.

What are the TEKS, and why do they matter?

The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are the official academic standards established by the Texas Education Agency for every subject and every grade level. They define what students should know and be able to do — from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. At Hokku Academy, every lesson, every assignment, and every assessment is designed around these standards, ensuring that your child’s education is rigorous, coherent, and fully aligned with the expectations of the state of Texas.

Is Hokku Academy’s curriculum the same at every grade?
Our curriculum is verticallyaligned — meaning the skills and concepts taught at each grade level are intentionally designed to build on what came before and prepare students for what comes next. Every grade from Kindergarten to 12th Grade has its own complete Instructional Guide, ensuring consistent quality and coherent progression across the entire school.

Does the Senior Capstone apply to all students?
The Senior Capstone is the culminating project of 12th Grade at Hokku Academy. Every senior designs, executes, and publicly defends an original project — research, creative work, or a professional product — before a panel of faculty, parents, and community members. It is the defining intellectual experience of a Hokku Academy education.
